WHY GIVE BASIC QUALIFICATIONS TYPES OF DONATIONS DONATION PROCESS WHAT'S RIGHT FOR MY TYPE? ![]() |
![]() To meet the increasing demand for blood, the Coastal Bend Blood Center is introducing a new program called, “What’s Right For My Type.” This program will optimize each of your blood donations by using automation and a more consistent donation schedule. Before introducing this program, the majority of blood donors have typically donated a Whole Blood unit. After a Whole Blood unit is collected, it is brought back to the Blood Center and then separated into three main components: red blood cells, platelets and plasma. Each donation is then distributed to the hospitals and patients in need of those components. Did you know that it requires six different whole blood donors to produce one unit of transfusable platelets? Automated blood donations are more efficient because individuals are able to donate the specific components most needed by patients at larger volumes. This makes automated blood donation the preferred method of collection. Please help us better meet patient needs by becoming an automated donor. ![]() ![]() To help with your decision, review the blood type specific information above. If you are ready to do “What’s Right For My Type” or if you have any questions about the process, please contact us at 361-855-4943 or 800-299-3945 and we will get you scheduled for your next donation. Thank you for your past dedication and your future support. |
