On any given day, open heart surgeries, cancer treatments and children’s medical procedures are performed on residents in area hospitals supported by the Coastal Bend Blood Center. These hospitals provide a second chance at life for many of these patients and rely on the Coastal Bend Blood Center to supply them with the blood and blood products needed to do so.  Here are just a few of their stories

John Hardy's Story
John Hardy suffers from Tetralogy of Fallot a condition that occurs when the right side of the heart does not develop properly while a baby is in the mother's womb. As a result he has undergone two open heart surgeries in less than than three years.

Melissa's Story
After a relatively normal pregnancy, Melissa was admitted to the emergency room after an obstetric complication caused her to deliver her baby 10 weeks early.

Blaine's Story
Diagnosed at birth, Blaine suffers from TAR Syndrome, a congenital abnormality that is marked by low blood platelets and the absence of the radius bone on both arms.

Harley's Story
In October of 2006 Harley was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia. A potentially life threatening disease, Aplastic Anemia causes an individual’s bone marrow to stop producing enough red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets for the body.

Sean worked as a Corpus Christi police officer, and was the picture of youth and health when he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
