COORDINATORS OF THE MONTH HIGH SCHOOL HERO AWARDS 2011 OUT FOR BLOOD 5K FUN RUN / 2-MILE WALK ![]() |
Coastal Bend Blood Center hosted its High School Hero Challenge awards luncheon to honor the 48 area high schools that participate in the organization’s annual blood drive competition. CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS. May 18, 2011 – Over 150 students, teachers and staff representing 48 Coastal Bend high schools gathered at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 18th at Mansion Royal to celebrate the conclusion of the Coastal Bend Blood Center’s annual High School Hero Challenge. This year-long competition separates participating high schools into four divisions based on size and encourages them to generate the highest number of blood donations for their division. Together these schools donated a combined total of 11,328 units of lifesaving blood for patients in the Coastal Bend. This year’s winners are as follows: HIGH SCHOOL CHAIRPERSON OF THE YEAR Judy Monk, Gregory-Portland High School RISING STAR AWARD: COLLEGIATE HIGH SCHOOL, 744% increase in participation DIVISION 4A/5A 1ST Place: Calallen 2ND Place: Gregory-Portland 3RD Place: Mary Carroll Honorable Mention: W.B.
